Rugby Advances to State Final on Saturday June 10th

The Milton Ruggers took advantage of a depleted Algonquin squad on Friday, by dismantling them 61-10 in the semi-finals.  The match took place at Curry College.  Just over a week from beating Algonquin to earn the #2 seed, the Wildcats were required to repeat the task of taking down the T-Hawks.  It could not have gone any more smoothly.  Milton led 55-5 at the half, and kept the pace after the break.

They will await the winner of Marshfield and Hanover on Sunday.  Milton’s only loss came against Marshfield, while they handled Hanover during the regular season.

The final will take place at Endicott College on Saturday, June 10th.  The time will be determined early next week,

Rugby off to a Strong Start with Wins over Hanover and Malden Catholic

Milton HS rugby came out of the gates strong this year after falling to Lincoln Sudbury in last year’s D2 State Final. Led by tri-captains Malik Cameron, Joe Morphin and Andrew Arcieri, the ruggers have a solid core of 13 returning seniors leading the way on the rugby pitch this spring.

In the season opener, Milton hosted Hanover, last year’s Division 3 State Champion. Ahead by only 10 points at halftime, the rugby Cats turned up the heat in the 2nd half and finished with a convincing 51-20 win over the Hanover Blues. Joe Morphin’s blasting high kicks had the Hanover defense on their heels all night. Abdullah El-Sayed was named Man of the Match for his consistent hard running and relentless tackling from the #8 position.

Next up were the Knights from Malden Catholic , away. Milton continued to stick to their game plan of forward crash ball and strong defense. The Wildcats hard work and focus during pre-season was quickly evident as they scored on almost every possession in the first half, resulting in a Milton victory, 61-5. The Caputo brothers seemed to be everywhere, dominating the rucks and loose play. Malik Cameron’s punishing runs from the center position gave Milton 3 scores in 15 minutes, resulting in Cameron being named Man of the Match.

Next up, Catholic Memorial, at home, Thursday April 27th, 4pm.
