Girls Hockey: Freshman Avery Blasdale’s 1st Varsity Goal Gives Wildcats Win Over Dedham

After a scoreless first period, and a goal from Dedham’s captain in the second, Milton trailed 1-0 entering the final period.  The Wildcats came out strong, looking sharper and more likely to score the game’s next.  After soaking up a little pressure from the Marauders deep in their zone, Elena Kapolis and Bella Calcagno linked up to find the latter’s cousin, Julia Scannell, sending her in alone from the red line.  Scannell skated hard towards net, dropped the shoulder, faked back-hand, and slotted the puck past the goaltender to tie the game for the Wildcats.  With 6:46 left in the game – just after having successfully killed off a penalty – Julia Scannell, fresh from the penalty box, chased the puck into Dedham’s zone.  The Wildcats were in the midst of a line change, so Scannell had to buy a little time, where she found Kapolis, operating in Gretzky’s office.  From behind the net, Kapolis found Avery Blasdale with a neat little saucer pass.  Without hesitation, the freshman slipped the puck in stick side to give the Wildcats the lead.  It was Blasdale’s 1st Career Varsity Goal.  This comeback win lifts the ‘Cats to 7-2-1, and 4-2-1 in the league.
